Why Les Houches?
Nestled in the heart of the Mont-Blanc Massif. The village resort of Les Houches is located in the Chamonix valley in the Haute Savoie, only 6km from Chamonix, the world capital of skiing and mountaineering. Les Houches lies in the heart of the Mont-Blanc region which is made up of 13 other resorts : Chamonix, Servoz, Vallorcine, Megève, St Gervais, Les Contamines, Praz-sur-Arly, Combloux, Cordon, Domancy, Passy, Sallanches. Situated at 1000 metres of altitude and lying at the foot of Mont-Blanc (4810m), Les Houches offers an exceptional panorama of the peaks surrounding Chamonix.
Restaurants, shops and services are all available within the village. Supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, tobacconists, souvenir shops, garages, petrol stations and plenty of sports shops/equipment hire outlets. Les Houches is more of a village resort than just a resort, with a strong year round population. There are locals who's families have been settled in the village for generations.
The
ski area of Les Houches, which peaks at 1900 m, has more than 55 km
of wooded slopes. Les Houches welcomes both family skiing, as well
as international competitions such as the Alpine Ski World Cup and
the Telemark World Cup. And dont forget the Les Houches
snowpark.
The
certification "FAMILLE PLUS" is a national label qualifying the
reception and the services proposed to families and to children in
the French touristic municipalities. Les Houches has worked hard
to achieve this label which is
highly regarded by the French. The resort has invested
heavily in improving its facilities, the obvious improvements being
the new cable car at Parion lift station and a redeveloped village
square with its new tourist office.
Chamonix is dominated by the majestic peak of Mont Blanc, 4,810m high, the highest mountain in western Europe & every year, the summit of Mont Blanc becomes the ultimate objective for mountaineers from all over the world, all striving to stand on the top of Europe and look down at all of the major summits of the Alps.
The route from the Aiguille du Midi, over Mont Blanc du Tacul and Mont Maudit is generally quieter, and highly dependent on conditions, but slightly more technical. The slightly easier and more reliable option is via the Tramway du Mont Blanc to the Nid d'Aigle(2,372m), then up the Aiguille du Gouter(3,817m) and the Bosse ridge. The Bellevue cable car from Les Houches takes you to the Tramway du Mont Blanc.
A lovely Ski Chalet set in a quiet location in the village of Les Houches, Chamonix Mt. Blanc.
